Thrills in Less than Four Seconds in the 2018 Ford Mustang GT

Already midway through its life-cycle, the iconic Mustang has gotten a thorough refresh that irons out kinks, but more importantly, increases its performance profile. Both EcoBoost and Coyote V8 engines have been upgraded for more power, and a ten-speed automatic transmission and 12-inch LCD Instrument Cluster are highlight options. But the real ticket is the configuration of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT that hits sixty in under four seconds.

The centerpiece, obviously, is the beloved Coyote V8. It’s seen some enhancements this year that have seen its power output rise to 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Even in its standard configuration--six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, and all—that’s sure to offer plenty of thrills. But if you equip the ten-speed automatic, GT Performance Package, and the MagneRide Dampers (similar to those on the GT350), you get a 0-60 sprint under four seconds, and suspension with more cornering bite. That acceleration is mostly thanks to the new Drag Strip mode, which broadens the power band for peak torque and horsepower the whole way through the rev range with blistering results.
